2021 Kia Stinger GT Refresh Spotted in Spy Shots
It wasn’t that long ago we were talking about the Kia Stinger sports car getting a mid-cycle refresh. Although still fairly new, a performance car wasn’t what many would expect from Kia Motors, an automaker with a focus on safety and alternative fuel and hybrid vehicles. The Kia Stinger proved to be an award-winning vehicle, with the first few rounds of deliveries disappearing from dealership lots in days. This sports car was even faster and more affordable than many high-end luxury sports cars. We’re not sure what happened, but a refresh is in the mix, and tweaks for the new 2021 Kia Stinger GT are already popping up in spy shots.
Automakers are always tight-lipped when it comes to new and upcoming products. Not only does one want to avoid unnecessary competition with a new project but confirming many features and then not delivering is a sore-spot for consumers in the auto market. The 2020 Kia Telluride is a perfect example of that. When first greenlit as a concept, the Kia Telluride had oodles of cool technology. And yet, not much of that cool technology made it into the final Kia Telluride SUV, although the Telluride is clearly an award-winner of its own, having won the “Triple Crown of Automotive Awards” in 2019.
SUVs and crossovers are another staple point of Kia Motors – making large vehicles, not small ones. Some of us out there still love sedans, but they’re no longer for everyone. Large cars that offer storage space and fuel economy are the breadwinners these days. So if looking to make a small car, a sports car no doubt, still relevant after a few years, a mid-cycle refresh is right on the money. A prototype of this new Stinger GT is already cruising around Europe in camouflage.
There are some subtle tweaks already starting to emerge, but the Kia Stinger was designed to look like no other, and it’s definitely hard to mistake the Stinger for any other sports car. Spotted with new touches to the front and rear fascia, the bumpers have small changes with newly modified graphics for the LED headlights and taillights, and fresh new alloy wheel designs are typically added with a refresh like this. As we’ve mentioned earlier, the interior cabin will get an upgrade with an available fully digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen with the UVO infotainment system. Right now, the Kia Stinger GT line, the stronger of the lineup, has a 3.3-Liter V6 Twin Turbo engine under the hood, able to produce 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque. In 2021, the Kia Stinger GT will be powered by a 3.3L V6 engine capable of producing 380 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. It’s a significant improvement that will make an already competitive sports car even better. There is also some talk about the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine getting some tweaks to keep the rest of the lineup in demand.
